All England Badminton Championship: Viktor Axelsen, Tai Tzu Ying won title
New Delhi, 16 March (HS): Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen won the All England Badminton Championship title for the first time by defeating Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei. In the women’s singles, Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei won the title for the third time by defeating China’s Chen Yufei.
The second seed, Viktor Axelsen, defeated the number one seed Chou Tien Chen by 21-13, 21-14 in a 46-minute match. With this, Axelsen held the record against Chen by 10–2. Peter Gade won the title for Denmark in 1999 before Axelsen.
The women’s singles final number was played between top seed China’s Chen Yuefei and former world number one Tai Tzu Ying, where Tai defeated Chen by 21–19, 21–15 and won the title for the third time.
Meanwhile, in the men’s doubles final, Japan’s Yuta Watanabe and Hiroyuki Endo defeated top seed Indonesia’s Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjay Sukamuljo by 21-18, 12-21, 21-19.
Japan dominated the women’s doubles as well. Yuki Fakushima and Sayaka Hirota defeated China’s du Yue and Lin Yin Hui by 21-13, 21-15 to win the title. Indonesia’s Pravin Jordan and Melati Daeva defeated Thailand’s Dechapol and Sapasiri by 21-15, 17-21, 21-8 in the mixed doubles final.
