Agreement on hydro-electric project between India, Bhutan signed
New Delhi, June 29, (HS) India’s Foreign Minister S Jayshankar on Monday signed an agreement with Bhutan related to Kholongchu’s 600 mw hydropower project through video conferencing.
This is the first hydro-electric project between India and Bhutan. The agreement has been done between Bhutan government and Kholongchu Hydro Energy Limited and is expected to be completed by 2025.
Kholongchhu Hydro Energy Limited is a joint venture formed between Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) of Bhutan and Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) of India. During this Jayshankar praised the India-Bhutan relationship adding that it is special. He said that there is geographical, cultural and spiritual engagement between the two countries and we have a common global view.
