Agitated citizens gheraoed the house of DM over disruption of power supply
Chapra, 28 June (HS): Reeling under the spell of unbearable humidity and heat, the anger of citizens exploded last night when power supply was disrupted. Wire of 33 KVA at Telpa broke down causing disruption of supply pf power in the Eastern and Western parts of the town.
Bearing no more, the citizens cameout at midnight around 1.30 pm and reached the house of superintending engineer and blocked the road. Superintending engineer Vivekananda did not come out while people demanded to talk to him. Later they were told that the officer was not in the house and had gone to Siwan.
But people noticed the vehicle of the engineer standing and burst out by saying that , officers would enjoy AC and people would reel under unbearable heat and humidity , will not continue. They threatened agitation and reached the house of DM Subrat Kumar Sen.
DM propmtly talked to the officials of electricity department and managed to restore supply of power. It is to be mentioned that two days ago, power supply was disrupted for 18 hours, much to the woe pf citizens. Consumption has risen up to 5 lakh units against 3 lakh unit. SDO told that due to break down of wire at Telpa supply was disrupted. After one and half hour, it was restored and supply according to need is being provided.
DM Subrat Kumar Sen told that officials of the electricity department have been clearly instructed to ensure that paucity of supply should not occur There is some work going on which is causing some inconvenience and with the start of one power sub station in the western side of the town, it would be overcome to great extent. One more power sub station between Inai and Revelganj is proposed and it will be started soon to sort out the problems of the consumers, he added.
