New Delhi/Melbourne, 13 June(HS) As Australian government is wary about environmental approvals being given to industries, the Gujarat based industrialist had to get many environmental approvals including last approval related to its groundwater management plan and conservation plans of bird species for its Carmichael coal mine project. Now, the Adani Group has finally done with all approvals and will start the construction activities on coal mine site in central Queensland. This project is expected to generate direct and indirect employment opportunities for about 8250 people.
It is noteworthy that Adani Enterprises bought this coal mine in Galilee Basin of Queensland in the year 2010. The production of 2.3 billion tonnes coal, over its lifespan is estimated. Adani will also build rail line to transport coal from this mine to Abbot Port. Adani group will start the production of coal by the year 2021.
To get various approvals after local protests of 8 years was a huge task and testing time for Adani Enterprises.Even after obtaining final environmental clearance from government, the company is supposed to get continual approvals from state and central government before extracting coal and to finalise royalty payments with government. However, despite all these, Lucas Dow, CEO, Adani Mining thanked Queenslanders for their support at every step during past eight years.
