Accused killed, wife dies after mob thrashes her; all kids rescued: Farrukhabad hostage case
Farrukhabad, Jan 31 (HS): The UP Police Friday managed to rescue the 23 children who had been taken captive by a murder accused Subhash Batham in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad. Batham was killed in an encounter during rescue operation.
UP Additional Secretary Awanish Kumar Awasthi confirmed that all children have been rescued safely and Subash Batham has been killed in an encounter.
Batham took over 20 children hostage on Thursday after inviting them on a birthday party at his house in a village in Farrukhabad. The children went to his house at around 3 pm. After some time the locals realised that their children has been made hostages. thereafter the villagers called the police.
Reaching the spot, the local people and police tried to communicate with him but he fired at them injuring one policeman and local villager. Immediately after the incident, the Superintendent of Police and Deputy Megistrate rushed to the spot.
Seven hours later, he released a six-month-old girl as a special team and other officials convinced him for it. Police said Batham handed over the girl to his neighbour from a balcony.
Around 1 am on Friday, the locals broke open the main gate of his house and the police entered the house. Reacting to that, Batham opened fire at police and in return police gunned him down and rescued all the children safely.
