A fortnight of communal riots shatters Bangladeshi Hindus

Bangladesh experienced 2,010 communal violence between August 4 to 20, killing at least nine people and directly affecting 1,705 families. Nirmal Rozario provided a detailed report on the communal violence. The report says, 157 homes were attacked, looted and vandalised, and set on fire. Several commercial establishments were also damaged.

Most of the riots were reported from Khulna division, where four women were raped. Thirty-five out of the 1,705 affected families, belonged to tribal communities. A total of 68 religious places were also vandalised and set on fire.

Nirmal Rozario has demanded an independent enquiry into the violence through the United Nations. At the same time, the organisation demanded the withdrawal of fake cases initiated against its leaders, an end to communal riots, and arrest of the guilty.

The organisation announced a nationwide demonstrations on September 21 against the arrest of Hindu-Bouddha-Christian Ekta Parishad General Secretary Adv Rana Dasgupta and other leaders and for an end to communal violence.
