72nd Army Day: For the first time a lady officer command the parade
New Delhi, Jan 15(HS): The country is celebrating 72nd Army Day today. The Army Day of 2020 is very special because for the first time on the occasion of Army Day, a female officer has command of the parade. On Army Day, Captain Tania Shergill has the distinction of becoming the first female parade commander. Captain Tania leads the men’s parade. Four generations of Captain Tania have been associated with the Army. Her father, grandfather, and great-grandfather have also been in the army.
Army Day is celebrated in honor of Field Marshal KM Cariappa. On this day in 1949, Cariappa took command of the first Commander-in-Chief of the Army. Cariappa led the army in the Indo-Pak war of 1947. Cariappa was awarded the second field marshal title in 1986. Earlier, Sam Manekshaw had the honor of becoming India’s first field marshal in 1973.
On the occasion of Army Day, the entire nation remembers the gallantry, indomitable courage, bravery, and sacrifice of the army. Army Day is celebrated by organizing military parades and other programs of strength in other parts of the country, along with the Army Command Headquarters in Delhi.
The Indian army was formed by the East India Company in Kolkata in 1776. The Indian Army has a distinct identity all over the world. The parade today includes 90 tanks, K-9 Vajra, Dhanush Cannon and Akash Missile on the occasion of Army Day. 1.3 million soldiers of the Indian Army are stationed at different places.
