PRAYAGRAJ, April 19 (HS): The number of active Covid cases in the city has surpassed 16,500, with more new infections recorded on Sunday. “After analysing the data of novel coronavirus infected patients during the second Covid wave, officials have found that out of 16,500 active cases, about 50% of hospitalised, home-isolated patients are aged between 40 and 65 years, while 35% are aged above 65 years,” said additional CMO and nodal officer Dr Rishi Sahai while speaking to HS. Only 25% of Covid’s patients are under the age of 40.” He went on to say that health department officials are collecting data on Covid patients who were infected in the second wave based on age, gender, and location.
This is being done in order to equate this data to the data collected from patients during the first Covid wave and investigate the factors that contributed to the disease’s spread. A total of 11,029 cases were registered in the last five days, according to the data: 2,436 on April 17, 2,236 on April 16, 2,324 on April 15, 1,891 on April 14, and 2,142 on April 13. More than 2,000 cases were added to the Covid count on four of the five days. Furthermore, in the last five days, 59 Covid patients have died: 14 on April 17, 11 on April 16, 12 on April 15, 10 on April 14, and 12 on April 13. More than 2,200 cases were observed every day over the last three days (April 15, 16, and 17), leaving health officials concerned.
Meanwhile, according to Dr. Sahai, a total of 80 medical teams are testing, tracking, and treating people in about 1,600 homes every day. He went on to say that about 70% of Covid cases were located in towns, with the remaining 30% in semi-urban and rural areas. Migrants returning from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, and other states are being closely monitored by health officials. Monitoring committees have also been instructed to keep track of migrants. In order to control the pandemic, the committees are working with district authorities and health officials.
