28 killed in torrential rains in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir
Islamabad/New Delhi, July.16(HS): The torrential rains and floods in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) have destroyed large number of houses and mosques in Neelam Valley and at least 28 people have been killed in various accidents.More than 150 houses have been damaged in the Valley in the event of cloud burst and dozens of people have been swept away in the flood.
Officials said that two mosques were completely devastated in the flood due to heavy rain. Mobile phones and internet services are also interrupted. The Pakistani army said in a statement that it took 52 people stranded in a village from helicopter and delivered them to safer places. Many people are still trapped in their homes and efforts are on to save them.
District Administration, Disaster Management Authority and local police are conducting rescue operations in the area. The director of the operations in the State Disaster Management Authority, Sadur Rahman Qureshi has confirmed the number of the dead.
He also expressed the possibility of a rise in the number. He said that 10 Islamic missionaries were also involved in the death.
