Illegal Construction Case at Shimla’s Sanjauli Mosque: Hearing Today, Police Tighten Security
The court of Shimla Municipal Corporation will hear the illegal construction case involving Sanjauli Mosque on Saturday. This marks the 46th hearing, and all eyes are on Municipal Commissioner Bhupendra Atri’s decision. Hindu organizations across the state and country are closely monitoring the outcome.
In the previous hearing on September 7, neither the mosque committee nor the Waqf Board provided satisfactory answers about the upper two and a half floors of the mosque. The court ordered the municipal engineer to measure the mosque and submit a status report. On September 12, Hindu groups held a protest in Sanjauli, demanding action.
Anticipating unrest, the Muslim side has submitted a request to demolish the illegal section of the mosque. Tensions have escalated, making today’s hearing crucial. Hindu groups, led by Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti, have threatened to launch a Jail Bharo movement if the decision doesn’t favor them. They also performed Hanuman Chalisa recitations in temples across Shimla last evening.
Meanwhile, Shimla Police have ramped up security around the mosque and court premises in Chakkar. Special security measures are in place across other district mosques as well, in preparation for any developments following the court’s ruling.
