15 killed in train accident in Bangladesh

Dhaka/New Delhi, Nov.12(HS): In Bangladesh’s Brahmnabariya district, 15 people died and injured more than 40 due to a collision in two passenger trains on Tuesday.

The accident occurred at 3 am when the Udayan Express train was leaving for Chattogram and Train going to Dhaka collided with Nishita. Most passengers were asleep at the time of the crash. In the collision of two passenger trains, 15 people have died at the Mondobagh railway station in Brahmanbaria, the Daily Star quoted Akhura railway in-charge Junction MD Delver Hussain.

The collision was so severe that 12 people died on the spot, while three died at the General Hospital of Brahmanbaria and Kamila Sadar Hospital while undergoing treatment. Investigation and rescue operations are being carried out and many people are feared trapped under the coaches.

Local police chief Anisur Rahman said train services out of Dhaka had been halted after the accident. The circumstances surrounding the accident were under investigation, a railway official said, we are still conducting a rescue operation, faulty signaling could have been to blame.
