1000 pigeons die of hunger in Mazar-e-Sharif in lockdown
New Delhi, June 10 (HS): Nearly 1000 pigeons have died of hunger in Afghanistan’s famous Mazar-e-Sharif mosque during lockdown. According to the statement from a mosque official, the pigeons were given grains as food by the devotees who visited the mosque. However, many mosques in the country were completely shut during the lockdown.
Qayyum Ansari, who maintains the mosque, said, “No one came to feed these pigeons during lockdown, due to which more than 30 white pigeons died every day. We used to bury them outside the mosque.” According to Qayyum, more than a thousand birds have died so far.
In Afghanistan, more than 23000 Corona cases have been reported and more than 1000 people have died so far. The pandemic has dealt a severe blow to Afhanist’s already crippled economy. Corona patients are not getting ventilators timely in hospitals. There are only 400 ventilators in the country that has a population of about 30 million .
