Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Khadi Bhavan’s record sales on Gandhi Jayanti as a major achievement. He noted the growing Swadeshi trend among Indians and expressed pride in its impact on artisans’ livelihoods.

Responding to the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) post on social media platform X, PM Modi wrote, “A very encouraging achievement! This record in Khadi sales highlights the rapid rise of Swadeshi among citizens. I am happy this movement is also improving the lives of our artisan brothers and sisters.”

The record-breaking sales occurred at Khadi Bhavan, Connaught Place, New Delhi, where products worth ₹2.01 crore were sold in just one day. This surge followed the Prime Minister’s call to support indigenous products during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio address.

KVIC, which operates under the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, promotes Khadi fabric and creates jobs for rural artisans. According to KVIC, Khadi sales reached ₹1.5 lakh crore in the 2023-24 fiscal year, up from ₹1.3 lakh crore the previous year.

This record underlines the growing national commitment to Swadeshi and the strengthening of the Khadi industry, which remains vital for rural employment and preserving India’s traditional crafts.
