Sai’s advice to make Sanskrit an official language is not realistic: Tharoor
New Delhi, June 07 (HS): Reacting to the remark made by Nand Kumar Sai, chairman, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) over his request to make Sanskrit an official language, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor today said that his advice is not realistic.
It may be recalled that Sai had on Thursday said that Sanskrit should be made the official language of the country and added that he will speak to the Human Resource and Development (HRD) Ministry regarding the same.
His comments came in the wake of Centre dropping the provision of compulsory teaching of Hindi in the schools of non-Hindi speaking states due to protests in Tamil Nadu and other states of the country.
However, Tharoor said that emphasis must be laid on improving our educational system so that people can understand, read and write better.
