The father of the deceased junior doctor from Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital revealed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah called him for a meeting. However, he refrained from providing further details about the conversation or the meeting’s location and timing.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the grieving father said, “I have spoken to him (Amit Shah). He has called me (for a meeting). I cannot talk much about it, but the meeting will take place.” This development follows a letter the victim’s parents wrote to Shah on October 22, seeking his assistance in getting justice. Although BJP leaders in West Bengal tried to arrange a meeting between the family and Shah during his Kolkata visit on October 27, it did not occur. Nevertheless, the parents expressed no frustration, remaining hopeful about future opportunities to meet the Union Home Minister.

The tragic incident occurred on August 9, when the body of the woman medic was found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Hospital. She had been raped and murdered while on duty. In response, junior doctors across West Bengal went on strike, demanding justice for the victim. The strike ended on September 21 after 42 days, following assurances from the state government to address their demands.

Initially, the Kolkata Police investigated the case, arresting a civic volunteer. However, the investigation was later handed over to the CBI by order of the Calcutta High Court.
