Nirbhaya Case :Supreme Court to hear plea of reconsideration petition.
New Delhi, Dec 12 (HS): A review petition filed by 2012 Delhi gang-rape convict Akshay Kumar Singh will be heard by the Supreme Court on 17 December i.e. Tuesday at 2 pm. The request will be heard at 2 pm in an open court. A bench of three judges will hear the plea of convict Akshay Kumar. Seven years ago, on December 16, the top court sentenced four accused to death in connection with the brutal gang-rape and murder of Nirbhaya on a moving bus.
Vinay Sharma, a convict in the same case, wrote a letter to President Ram Nath Kovind, demanding that he withdraw his mercy petition. The convict Vinay Sharma, his lawyer A.P. Through Singh, wrote a letter to the President requesting that he be allowed to withdraw the mercy petition. The letter claimed that the mercy petition sent to the President by the Ministry of Home Affairs did not have his signature. Lawyer Singh alleged that this is a conspiracy, as he has not yet filed a remedial petition.
The court has accepted this review petition. Convicted Akshay Thakur has requested the court to consider his hanging sentence once again. On the other hand, preparations are also going on to hang the culprits in Tihar. Vinay, the fourth convict in the case, has been shifted from Mandoli jail to Tihar.
