Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi sworn in as Rajya Sabha member, oppo

New Delhi , Mar 19 (HS): Today is the 12th day of the second phase of the budget session of Parliament. Former Supreme Court Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi was sworn in as a Rajya Sabha member today, during which some opposition MPs created a ruckus. Some MPs also raised slogans of Shame-Shame.

Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi took the oath of action in both houses of Parliament. The former CJI was sworn in as a Rajya Sabha member. During this time, slogans of opposition MP Shame-Shame were also raised under the leadership of Congress. Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad hit back saying that in the past too many former CJI and celebrities have become part of this house.

Justice Ranjan Gogoi has been the 46th Chief Justice of the country. He held the post of CJI from October 3, 2018, to November 17, 2019. He was born on November 18, 1954 in Assam, Ranjan Gogoi studied at Don Bosco School in Dibrugarh and St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. His father Keshav Chandra Gogoi was the Chief Minister of Assam.

Justice Ranjan Gogoi registered for advocacy in 1978. On 28 February 2001, Ranjan Gogoi was appointed as a permanent judge of the Guwahati High Court. Justice Gogoi became the  judge of the Supreme Court on 23 April 2012 and later also became the Chief Justice.
