Citizenship Amendment Bill passed in Lok Sabha…….
New Delhi , Dec 10 (HS): The Citizenship Amendment Bill has passed in the Lok Sabha and now the Modi government will present it in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Due to the coming together of JDU, Shiv Sena, BJD and some parties from the Northeast in favor of the Citizenship Amendment Bill, the government had no problem in passing this bill. In the Lok Sabha, 311 votes were cast in favor of this bill. Whereas, 80 votes were cast in opposition.
The Citizenship Amendment Bill proposes granting Indian citizenship to the Hindu, Jain, Christian, Sikh , Buddhist and Parsi communities of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan . The Muslim community is excluded from this bill.
Due to opposition from these parties, the Central Government had to withdraw from discussing the Citizenship Amendment Bill in Rajya Sabha. Many opposition parties, including the Congress, are very aggressive about the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
