BJP President Election 2026: Nitin Nabin to take charge as youngest National Chief
New Delhi witnessed a festive mood on Tuesday as the Bharatiya Janata Party prepared to announce its new national president. Party workers gathered outside the BJP headquarters early in the morning. They waved flags, beat drums, and celebrated the expected elevation of Bihar leader Nitin Nabin. Meanwhile, senior leaders arrived at the venue for the formal declaration.
Nitin Nabin emerged as the consensus choice after he filed nominations without opposition. No rival candidate entered the race. Therefore, the party cleared his path to the top post smoothly. Leaders described the process as a sign of unity ahead of crucial political battles.
Nabin carries a strong political legacy. He is the son of late BJP stalwart Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, who represented Patna West in the Bihar Assembly four times. After his father’s death in 2006, Nitin Nabin stepped into public life. Soon after, he contested the Patna West by-election and secured victory. Since then, he steadily expanded his role in state and national politics.
At 45, Nabin now stands on the verge of becoming the BJP’s youngest national president. His rise reflects the party’s push to promote a new generation of leadership. At the same time, his organizational experience in Bihar and close ties with the central leadership strengthened his position.
On Monday, supporters submitted 37 sets of nomination papers backing his name. K Laxman, the returning officer, received the documents at the party office. Several top leaders proposed Nabin’s candidature. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the list. Alongside him, Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupendra Yadav, Kiren Rijiju, and Hardeep Singh Puri endorsed his name. Outgoing president JP Nadda also joined the proposers. Consequently, the move signaled a coordinated leadership transition.
Party insiders highlighted the symbolism of these endorsements. They said the top brass wanted to present a united front. Moreover, leaders stressed continuity as the BJP moves toward upcoming national and state elections.
JP Nadda earlier held the party’s highest organizational post. The BJP appointed him as working president in January 2020. Later, the party granted him a full three-year term. Afterward, the leadership extended his tenure until June 2024 to maintain stability during a busy electoral cycle. Now, with Nabin stepping in, the party begins a new chapter.
The BJP scheduled the formal announcement between 11:30 am and 1:30 pm in New Delhi. Prime Minister Modi will attend the event. Senior ministers and state leaders will also remain present. Once declared, Nabin will become the 12th national president in the party’s history.
Celebrations already intensified outside the headquarters. Workers distributed sweets and shouted slogans praising the leadership change. Many supporters expressed hope that Nabin would energize the organization and connect strongly with younger voters.
With this transition, the BJP signals both continuity and renewal. The leadership now expects Nabin to steer the party’s strategy, strengthen grassroots networks, and prepare the cadre for future contests.
