The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has called off its planned Bhubaneswar bandh scheduled for September 24, a day after announcing the protest against the custodial torture of an Indian Army Major and his fiancée at Bharatpur police station.

This decision comes after the Odisha government ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi requesting the probe team to submit its report within 60 days.

BJD called off the 6-hour bandh that was scheduled for September 24 (Tuesday) from morning 6 am, soon after the Odisha government’s announcement.

Talking to mediapersons Senior BJD leader Devi Prasad Mishra said, “Our former CM Naveen Patnaik had demanded a judicial probe into the incident.

He had called for an impartial probe. His demand was a High Court-monitored judicial probe. Now, that the Odisha government has agreed to his demands and ordered a judicial inquiry into the matter, we have decided to call off the bandh scheduled to be held in Bhubaneswar on September 24 (Tuesday),”

“We hope the government completes the judicial inquiry within 60 days as per the promise,” he added.
