New Delhi, Jan 09(HS):  Diplomats from 17 countries, including America’s Ambassador to India Kenneth I. Juster, will go on a two-day visit Jammu and Kashmir from Thursday. This will be the first visit to diplomats after Jammu and Kashmir’s special status was abolished last year.

These diplomats from Delhi will go to Srinagar by air on Thursday and from there they will go to Jammu. They will also meet the people of civil society along with the Deputy Governor GC Murmu there.

These will also include diplomats from Bangladesh, Vietnam, Norway, Maldives, South Korea, Morocco, Nigeria, etc. Officials said on Wednesday that Brazilian diplomat André A. Corrio do Lago was also scheduled to visit Jammu and Kashmir. Although he decided not to go on tour here due to his predetermined schedule.

It is believed that representatives of European Union countries have spoken about visiting the Union Territory on another date. It is also believed that they expressed a desire to meet former Chief Ministers Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, and Mehbooba Mufti.

According to the officials, the envoys traveling on Thursday will meet civil society members and receive a briefing on the security situation from various agencies. On the same day, they will be taken to Jammu where they would meet Lt Governor Murmu and other officials before returning to the national capital on Friday, they added. The officials said the envoys of a number of countries had requested the government for a visit to Kashmir to get a first-hand account of the situation prevailing in the valley following the abrogation of certain provisions of Article 370.
