Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay recently attended a wedding reception in Chennai. Actor Trisha also appeared at the same event. Their joint appearance quickly drew attention because it came during Vijay’s ongoing divorce case with his wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam.

Videos from the event soon spread across social media platforms. In the clips, Vijay stepped out of a car while holding a bouquet. Trisha walked behind him as they entered the venue. Both actors wore traditional outfits and greeted guests at the function.

The event marked the wedding reception of the son of film industry personalities Kalpathi Suresh and Meenakshi. The Kalpathi family plays an important role in film production and distribution in Tamil cinema. Therefore, several prominent figures from the industry attended the celebration.

However, the public appearance gained attention because it followed recent developments in Vijay’s personal life. Earlier, news emerged that Sangeetha Sornalingam had filed a divorce petition in December 2025. The petition surfaced publicly on February 27 and sparked widespread discussion.

According to the filing submitted in the Chengalpattu District Court, Sangeetha asked the court to dissolve their 27-year marriage. She cited several reasons in the petition. These included allegations of infidelity, emotional neglect, mental cruelty, and desertion.

In her statement, Sangeetha claimed that Vijay maintained an extramarital relationship with a female actor. She described her experience in the marriage as emotionally distressing. She also stated that the relationship had deteriorated over the past few years.

Furthermore, Sangeetha requested the court to conduct the proceedings privately. She argued that open hearings could increase stress for the family. She also expressed concern that public debate around the case could cause further humiliation and emotional pain.

The petition also claimed that Vijay had grown emotionally distant since 2021. According to Sangeetha, he treated her with verbal disrespect during that period. She alleged that he created a situation that forced her to live separately within the same house.

In addition, the petition referred to the impact on their children. Sangeetha stated that their son Jason Sanjay and daughter Divya Saasha faced embarrassment among their peers because of the situation. She said the ongoing conflict had affected the family emotionally.

The filing also revealed that the couple had attempted communication earlier. Sangeetha and Vijay reportedly exchanged legal notices and letters between August 2024 and February 2025. However, those attempts did not resolve the dispute.

Vijay and Sangeetha first married in the United Kingdom in 1998. Later, they held another wedding ceremony in India in 1999. Over the years, Vijay built one of the most influential careers in Tamil cinema. Meanwhile, he also entered politics and launched his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.

The divorce controversy also sparked conversations on social media about the couple’s son, Jason Sanjay. Some fans noticed that he did not follow Vijay on Instagram. Screenshots shared online showed that Jason followed actor Vijay Sethupathi and several other accounts.

However, other users argued that Jason had never followed his father’s account or his political party’s page earlier either. Therefore, many observers said the speculation might not reflect any recent change.

Jason Sanjay currently focuses on his debut directorial project titled Sigma. Actor Sundeep Kishan will reportedly play the lead role in the film.

Meanwhile, Vijay continues his professional commitments. His upcoming film Jana Nayagan recently received clearance for release from the Madras High Court. Fans now await further updates about the film while the actor’s personal life remains under intense public attention.
