Loveyapa review: Junaid & Khushi’s love story lacks spark, laughs in short supply!

Aamir Khan introduces Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor in Loveyapa, but the film struggles to impress. Based on the Tamil film Love Today, it follows Gen Z couple Baani (Khushi) and Gaurav (Junaid). When Baani’s father (Ashutosh Rana) discovers their relationship, he sets a challenge: exchange unlocked phones for one night. If they survive, they can marry.

The premise is intriguing, but the execution falters. The film crams too many themes—phone addiction, online trolling, deepfakes, and AI—into its runtime. The humor works in places, thanks to Sneha Desai’s Punjabi dialogues, but the forced catchphrases and stretched narrative test patience.

Junaid delivers a stiff performance, while Khushi shows some improvement since The Archies. Ashutosh Rana anchors the film with his seasoned presence, and Grusha Kapoor shines as Gaurav’s mother. Kiku Sharda gets a non-comic role, but Aaditya Kulshreshth deserved better.

Despite moments of fun, Loveyapa lacks the charm and repeat value of Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. It’s a one-time watch at best, mainly due to the lack of good rom-coms in Bollywood.
