Nandamuri Balakrishna kicked off the box office with a strong start as Akhanda 2 released this Friday. Fans gave the action-packed sequel a massive welcome, and the film collected an impressive ₹30.5 crore on opening day.

According to Sacnilk.com, the movie earned ₹8 crore from Thursday previews and ₹22 crore on Friday. By comparison, the first Akhanda managed ₹15 crore on its Day 1 and ₹6 crore on Day 2. The original film went on to gross ₹89 crore over five weeks. Balakrishna’s previous big release, Daaku Maharaj, had collected ₹100 crore in India in the same period.

Akhanda 2: Thaandavam continues the story from the 2021 hit Akhanda. Director Boyapati Srinu returned to helm the sequel. Balakrishna leads the cast, with Samyuktha, Aadhi Pinishetty, and Harshaali Malhotra playing pivotal roles. Fans praised Thaman S’s soundtrack, calling it a perfect match for the film’s intense sequences.

The release came after a sudden one-week delay, leaving fans surprised. The film was initially set to hit screens last Thursday. However, distributor 14 Reels Plus announced a postponement hours before release. The company thanked fans for their patience while apologizing on X.

Though the makers did not officially state the reason, industry insiders linked the delay to legal issues. Eros International Media Limited approached the Madras High Court over ₹28 crore plus interest in pending arbitration dues allegedly owed by 14 Reels Entertainment for more than a decade. Sources say the clearance arrived just a day before the rescheduled release.

Despite the hiccup, the anticipation only grew. Early reports indicate packed theaters across Telugu-speaking states, with several multiplexes reporting sold-out shows. Fans took to social media to share reactions, praising Balakrishna’s energy, punch dialogues, and high-octane action sequences.

Trade analysts say the Day 1 collection sets a strong precedent for Akhanda 2. They expect the film to maintain momentum through the weekend, potentially surpassing the first installment’s lifetime collections. Word-of-mouth appears highly favorable, and the legal delay seems to have heightened fan enthusiasm rather than dampened it.

Moreover, the film’s international premieres received attention, with the Telugu diaspora showing strong turnout in the US, UK, and UAE. Overseas markets often boost the total earnings for major releases like Akhanda 2.

In summary, Balakrishna returned to theaters with a bang. Akhanda 2 overcame legal hurdles and last-minute delays to dominate ticket windows. The film’s combination of star power, direction, and fan loyalty contributed to an impressive ₹30.5 crore debut. With the momentum it has generated, analysts predict a blockbuster run for the sequel, reinforcing Balakrishna’s enduring pull at the box office.
