Haryana police uncovered a chilling crime trail in Panipat after a 32-year-old woman, Poonam, admitted to killing four children, including her own son. The investigation revealed a disturbing pattern. She targeted young girls within her extended family because she felt intense jealousy and anger whenever she saw a “beautiful child.” Police officials said she developed this mindset over the past two years and acted on it repeatedly.

The case began to unfold during a wedding in Panipat. A six-year-old girl was found dead in a storeroom. Police reached the spot and immediately noticed inconsistencies in the family’s account. As officers questioned relatives, Poonam broke down and confessed. Her confession shocked the investigators. She said she killed the girl by forcing her head into a water-filled tub. She also told police she acted out of fear that the child might grow up to be “more beautiful” than her.

As the officers dug deeper, they found two more deaths tied to her. She told them she drowned her sister-in-law’s nine-year-old daughter in Sonipat in 2023. At that time, she feared suspicion, so she made another horrific decision. She killed her three-year-old son, Shubham, to make the first death look accidental. Police said she used the same method in every case. She drowned the victims in tanks or tubs so the family would treat the deaths as tragic accidents.

The pattern continued in August 2025. She visited Sewah village during a family gathering. There, she allegedly drowned her cousin’s six-year-old daughter in a water tank. The family did not suspect foul play. They believed she was unlucky to witness so many accidents. Police now say she used this trust to stay close to young girls and attack them when no one watched her.

Panipat SP Bhupender Singh said the interrogation revealed a deep psychological disturbance. According to him, Poonam openly admitted that she couldn’t tolerate the presence of girls she considered “beautiful.” He said she expressed jealousy and fear, telling police the girls might grow up to surpass her in appearance. He also noted that she showed signs of psychopathic behaviour and lacked emotional stability. Officials said she acted alone and kept her thoughts hidden from everyone, including her husband and parents.

After gathering statements, checking crime scenes and tracing timelines, police stated that they now have a clear picture of how she moved between homes and targeted children within the family. Officers said the latest murder exposed her pattern because relatives noticed she stayed close to the victim moments before the girl disappeared.

The case has created a wave of shock across Haryana. Residents in both Panipat and Sonipat said they cannot believe a family member could harm children so young. Police now plan to request a detailed psychiatric evaluation before presenting the chargesheet.

The investigation continues, but officers say the motive remains the most disturbing part. It stems not from conflict, financial stress or revenge, but from a mindset shaped by jealousy and insecurity toward children who had no idea they were in danger.
