Neeraj Chopra to return home from Turkey after Coronavirus outbreak
New Delhi, 18 March (HS): India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra will leave his practice from Turkey and return home due to Coronavirus outbreak. The 22-year-old Neeraj has already qualified for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and has been practicing in Turkey for the past one month. He qualified for the Olympics by throwing 87.86 meter in a competition in South Africa after emerging from an elbow injury last year.
An official of the Indian Athletics Federation said, “Turkey is closing its borders on 18 March and before that Neeraj’s departure is very important. He is returning home on Wednesday.”
The official also informed that Neeraj would not participate in the Doha leg starting from April 17.
Apart from Neeraj, his partner Shivpal Singh is also leaving his training and returning home from South Africa. Shivpal also made it to the Tokyo Olympics 2020 last month and became the second Indian to do so after Neeraj Chopra.
The Coronavirus has been declared an epidemic by the World Health Organization (WHO). Corona terror is spreading in more than 130 countries of the world and due to this more than 7000 people have lost their lives.
