Sonowal gives Kalicharan Brahma Award to Harekrishna Mahanta

Udalguri, July 3 (HS): Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today presented Kalicharan Brahma Award 2018 to eminent Satriya Culture exponent Harekrishna Mahanta at a function held at parade ground of Udalguri DC Office at Udalguri tuesday. The award consists a commendation, shawl and a cheque worth Rs. 3 lakh.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said that few the great men had been contributing since ages to the humanitarian, spiritual, cultural and intellectual enrichment of the people. Kalicharan Brahma was one such great personality who contributed immensely to the development of the Bodo people along with other people belonging to other sections of the society.

Therefore, Kalicharan Brahma remains relevant even in the age of 21st century. Chief Minister Sonowal also said that there is a need to study this great man even today so that the younger generation get to know about him.

Sonowal also said that the Satriya Culture exponent Harekrishna Mahanta like Kalicharan Brahma faced immense encumbrances in life and became so important that he became an ideal personality in our society. At the age of 95, the manner in which Harekrishna Mahanta roamed around the entire Assam and worked for the educational and cultural development of the society is something very remarkable. He also said that the achievement of Harekrishna Mahanta will be a source of inspiration to the people.

Chief Minister also said that the BJP led State government since beginning has been making committed efforts to preserve and promote the cultural artefact of the people and places belonging to Barak, Brahmaputra, Hills and plains. Therefore, his government has been working for the equal development of even the smaller sections of the people of the society. As a result of this even the smaller segment of the demography of Assam is now living with dignity.

Rich in resources, if every segment of the demography puts in a concerted effort Assam will become one of the developed states of the country. He also said that hard work makes visible changes in the individual and societal life and in this context he referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who worked from 18 to 20 hours in the last 5 years to lead India one of the most powerful countries of the world.

He also said that BTAD has become an example to everybody for its good performance. Once infamous for all the wrong reasons, BTAD has now curved a niche as one of the best performing areas of the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister of State for Culture Naba Kumar Doleyasked the younger generation to emulate the life and vision of Kalicharan Brahma and HarekrishnaMahanta. He also hailed the steps of Chief Minister Sonowal for instituting awards and celebrating the festival of the less known and smaller communities of the state.

Social Welfare Minister Pramila Rani Brahma speaking on the occasion highlighted different facets of life of Kalicharan Brahma. She also thanked Sonowal for instituting award in the name of Kalicharan Brahma.

While, PHED Minister Rihon Daimary speaking on the occasion thanked Chief Minister Sonowal and cultural affairs department for organising the award giving ceremony in Udalguri. He also said had Kalicharan not played the crucial role the erstwhile undivided Goalpara would have been annexed with Bengal.

Expressing his gratitude awardee Harekrishna Mahanta said that the manner in which the present State government has been showing its respect to spiritually and culturally enriched persons, God will ever shower its blessing on the government so that the it (government) keeps working for the welfare of all sections of the people of the state.

MLAs Kamali Basumatary, Charan Bodo, Maneswar Bodo, ThaneswarBasumatary, Ganesh Limbu, Director Cultural Affairs Barnal iSarma, Satradhikar of Uttar KamalabariSatra Janardan Debagoswami, several executive members of BTC and a host of dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Synchronising with the programme Chief Minister Sonowal also felicitated 14 personalities for their outstanding contribution in sports, music, literature, environment, conservation etc.
