Israeli forces released drone footage showing Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s final moments. The video, shared on October 17, appears to capture Sinwar, wounded and sitting on a sofa, in a heavily damaged Gaza apartment. Israeli troops unknowingly killed Sinwar during a gun battle in southern Gaza on October 16. The military confirmed his identity through dental records, fingerprints, and DNA testing.

Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani, an Israeli military spokesperson, confirmed Sinwar’s death and shared footage of the event. The video shows Sinwar throwing a wooden plank at an approaching Israeli drone, with his right arm visibly injured. At the time, Israeli forces had only identified him as a fighter, not realizing they had killed the leader of Hamas.

Military spokesperson Daniel Hagari added that after an initial shelling, Sinwar was found alone, wearing a bulletproof vest and holding grenades. He had fled into a building after sustaining injuries. Israeli forces fired another shell, collapsing the building and killing him.

Hamas has yet to comment on Sinwar’s death.
