Rahul Gandhi claims late Rajiv Gandhi, former Waynad MP!

Thiruvananthapuram,22 November(HS): A faux pas committed by former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has put him in an embarrassing position. The Wayanad MP has made a claim on his website that Rajiv Gandhi, his late father had a special love for the tribals in Waynadu and had represented the Lok Sabha constituency from 1980 till 1991 when he fell to the suicide bombers of the LTTE terrorists.

The website has (https://rahulgandhi.in/en/wayanad.php), a section marked for Wayanadu, the constituency from where he was elected in 2019 to the Lok Sabha. The Gandhi scion claims: Wayanad during the 1980s was very different from the Wayanad of today. In the 1980s, it was considered to be amongst the most backward regions in the country. Upholding the pro-development and inclusive spirit of the Congress Party, Rajiv Gandhi decided to focus his attention and work towards ameliorating the situation of the people of Wayanad.

This is why he chose to contest elections from Wayanad and was elected as an MP for two terms from 1981. He continued to represent the constituency until his death in 1991. In a span of 10 years, Wayanad witnessed drastic developments on all fronts- agriculture, law and order, health and education, industrialisation as well as connectivity. One of the most significant achievements was in the field of agriculture where wide expanses of infertile, alkaline land were transformed into lush green farms with good productivity.

Both the Congress party and the leadership are known for distorting Indian history with their brothers-in-arms, the Communists, especially the Marxists. But nowhere this kind of distortion is visible as in the case of Wayanad. Rajiv Gandhi had not visited Wayanad even once in his lifetime but his son has portrayed him as a former member of the Lok Sabha. Rajiv Gandhi represented Amethi in Lok Sabha during his lifetime.
