62,423 hectares of land freed from mafia in 4 years across UP, 484 held
PRAYAGRAJ, September 9(HS): In the last four years, 484 people have been arrested and sentenced as part of a statewide crackdown on land mafia. Two of the apprehended suspects were charged under the National Security Act (NSA), while 170 were charged under the Gangsters Act. The Goonda Act has also been implemented on 399 people who had illegally occupied property. According to a senior home department officer, the state has freed up 62,423 hectares of land in the last four years. After gaining power in 2017, chief minister Yogi Adityanath vowed to take tough action against the land mafia, according to the officer.
According to the officer, a four-tier anti-land mafia team was formed on the CM’s orders, and a campaign to identify land mafia was carried out. ?To make it easier for people to file complaints against the land mafia, the government has set up a portal http://jansunwai.up.nic.in/,? the official stated. According to ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar, police have filed 3,313 FIRs against 1,290 land mafia in the last four years.
