Sevalaya conducts free special medical camp
Tamil Nadu: Chennai, March 9 (HS)Sevalaya, noted NGO based in Chennai had its own unique way of celebrating Womens Day.
NGO into serving the underprivileged children and elderly persons conducted a medical camp to mark International Women’s Day.
Camps were held at Thuyamariyanal Elementary School and Katharinatham village in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu.
About 125 women benefitted from the camp also many men attended the camp seeking medical help.
A physically challenged woman was given treatment in the medical camp at Katharinatham.
It was found that she had been sexually abused. The poor orphan woman could not explain what had happened to her and had not even consulted a doctor.
Treatment was given to her and she will be accommodated in Sevalaya hostel and vocational training will be given to her.
Among the men who received treatment were an alcoholic and an accident victim.
Doctors visited their houses on the request of their wives keeping in mind their inability to arrive at the medical camp.
Accident victim met with the accident three days ago and doctors at visiting the home found the wound to be infected.
The wound was treated and medicines were provided. The alcoholic was asked to go for a few tests and consult doctors for the treatment.
The camp at Katharinatham was a follow up for the earlier camp held there a fornight ago, where the
underprivileged people got checked by a doctor for first time in their lives.
